Listened to about half of it so far, pretty impressive stuff.
Still not sure I've heard a vocal version of the opera scene that I like though, and that includes all the ones Square have done themselves as well. The one here sounds a little like a Queen rock opera interpretation, but drifts occasionally into sounding more like Weird Al's impression of Queen. Maybe I'm being a little harsh (especially given how awful the version on Black Mages 3 is), I just wonder if anyone will actually get an actual female soprano to sing it, given that's what it's supposed to be... hehe.
The comments on the OCReMix page about the opera track are pretty much in line with your thoughts. The Queen pastiche was obvious to me, though I didn't notice the Weird Al similarity until it was pointed out in those comments, and now it's really clear.
I've listened to the first two discs so far. "A Fistful of Nickels" is one of my favourites, and I'm really pleased that Jillian Aversa did Celes' theme, her voice has done it justice.
I like zircon's version of Setzer's theme at the end of disc 2 'Full Speed Ahead'. He's definitely one of my favourite of the OC remixers.
On to disc three today. Not sure how much I'll get through, I'm mainly doing sound effect work on the game today which is hard to do if you have music on as well :)
My word, there's a lot of dubstep on disc 3. Boooo.
Did you ever listen to the OCReMix Deus Ex album, Sonic Augmentation? There's a zircon/Jillian Aversa collab on that one that's really good.
I quite like the "ukulele dubstep" version of Mog's theme on disc three, even though I know I really shouldn't. That said, I also like the Leitbur eighties-style tracks on disc one in spite of that sort of music generally not being to my taste at all. OCReMix tends to do that to me.
