Microwave cake experiment #6

Chocolate orange deliciousnessCollapse )

I see no sense in continuing to experiment with this recipe: it works beautifully as it stands. Job done!

Finalized microwave chocolate cake recipe
cake experiments

  • 1 tablespoon self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or equivalent sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • tiny pinch of salt (omit if your self-raising flour contains salt)
  • 2 teaspoons smooth apple sauce
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon golden syrup
  • generous dollop of fruit spread
If you live in some poor, deprived heckhole of a country where golden syrup is not readily available, clear honey would probably work as a substitute. Or consider moving to a better country. Golden syrup is worth it.

(In all seriousness, the syrup could probably be replaced with a little extra sugar and apple sauce. It doesn't really contribute that much to the flavour, but does add some moisture).

Combine the dry ingredients in a cup or ramekin, then add the apple sauce, milk and syrup. Mix well. Drop the fruit spread into the middle of the batter. (Don't be shy about using a really generous dollop!) Cook in an 800W microwave for fifty seconds at full power; adjust appropriately for a microwave of a different wattage.

Enjoy immediately after cooking!
